What is emotional intelligence and how can you develop it: Useful insights by one of the leading BBA colleges

In today’s workplace, having emotional intelligence is important. Emotionally intelligent leaders motivate others and create an environment in which others feel safe to express themselves and communicate. Emotionally intelligent people

  • Understand their emotions and why they are behaving in a particular way
  • Remain calm in stressful situations
  • Are able to influence others toward a common goal
  • Handle difficult people tactfully

Emotional intelligence is the ability to perceive, interpret, demonstrate, control, and use emotions to communicate with others effectively. For students pursuing a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) degree, emotional intelligence can be a valuable asset later on in their life when they join the workforce. This is why our BBA curriculum includes a certificate course in emotional intelligence. As one of the best BBA colleges in India, we share with you some tips on how you can develop emotional intelligence:

  1. Practice observing how you feel:

When you are able to observe how you feel, you will be able to manage your emotions better. Additionally, by observing how you feel, you will be able to identify any patterns that may be causing you stress or affecting your learning. For example, if you notice that you always feel anxious before an exam, you can try to find ways to relax and reduce your anxiety.

  1. Respond instead of reacting:

It is easy to let emotions take over and react in the heat of the moment. However, this usually only makes the situation worse. Instead, it is important to take a step back and respond to the conflict calmly and constructively. One way to do this is to see both sides of the issue. It can also be helpful to ask questions instead of making assumptions.

  1. Use active listening skills:

Being a good listener is one of the most important skills you can have. When you are able to really listen to what someone is saying – not just the words, they are using, but the emotions behind them – you are able to respond properly. Here’s how you can practice active listening:

  • It’s a great practice to stop other tasks and attend to who is speaking to you.
  • Ask open-ended questions to get the most out of the conversation.
  • Engage your imagination by asking yourself what you would have done had you been in a similar situation.

  1. Question your own opinions:

In this hyper-connected world, it is easy to fall prey to echo chambers where your beliefs are constantly reinforced by people with similar viewpoints. While it is important to stand up for what you believe in, it is also essential to take the time to understand other points of view. Reading about different perspectives can help you see the world in a new light and open your mind to new possibilities.

  1. Seek other’s opinion

To develop emotional intelligence, you must audit your self-perception by asking your classmates, friends, and family how they would rate your emotional intelligence. If someone gives you negative feedback, look for ways to constructively resolve the issue. You can also ask them about how you respond to difficult situations.
